Brooklands Rotary Venue 13/04/2003

What a day! With a turnout of well over seventy smart cars and two Suzuki bikes, with some really fine weather and with enough smiles and enthusiasm to fill several large barrels this rotary spring gathering could not have been better.

The RX Seven, mazdarotaryclub.com and Mazda RX-7 Owners Club were all there together with David Evans from Classic and Sports Car magazine. By eleven a.m. there were 40 cars assembled. At 12 noon our intrepid marshaller, Tony, was heard to say to a new arrival "I don't know where you're going to put it!" and that just about summed up the situation - the place was packed!

During the day we were serenaded by recordings from the likes of Bing Crosby and heard a string of oldies. Somehow this added to the tranquility of the occasion.

Everybody's car is 'special' and undoubtedly the object of much 'TLC'. Each one of us has a different approach to owning a rotary and this is perhaps what makes such a gathering so interesting. My own interest is in Generation 1 models and that's why these, mainly, are featured on this very unofficial page. This interest in no way reflects the balance of the meeting which covered such a wide range of truly beautiful cars.

Before I came to the meeting I used to think that the main expense in running an RX was felt at the petrol pump. This may still be so but running a close second must be the cost of dusters and car polish, the place fairly sparkled!

So who had the worst job on the day? Without doubt those who were responsible for picking the winners in such a bunch of top cars. It must have been a most difficult task.

With apologies to those one or two whose images I seem to have mislaid.
