"The Savanna RX-7 is a clear winner even before it leaves the start line" |
The inventor of the rotary engine, Felix Wankel, ran the prototype of his revolutionary engine in 1957 and signed a technical agreement with Mazda in 1960.
Mazda's Kenichi Yamamoto, the brilliant graduate from Japan's Imperial University, was given the task of developing the design and this was eventually incorporated in the RX-7.
The new arrival was dubbed by many as the best looking car ever to come out of Japan. Even now, over twenty years since the first Series 1 hit the streets it is still
considered to be an enthusiast's dream come true.
The magnificent E-SA22C Savanna was developed from the basic RX-7. This is the 'story so far' - of just one such Savanna - a Special Limited Edition model manufactured for the Japanese home market in Hiroshima in 1982.
This is one of the very few examples surviving world wide.
